The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Public Property Disposal convened on Thursday, directing top officials from several agencies to provide explanations concerning the sale of certain public assets. The committee, led by Chairman Julius Ihonvbere, called upon the Director-General of NIMASA, Bashir Jamoh; Nigerian Ports Authority MD, Mallam Mohammed Koko; and Nigerian Customs’ Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi.
Ihonvbere expressed frustration over the agencies’ previous lack of responsiveness to parliamentary summons. He emphasized that the current assembly would not tolerate such behavior and urged the leaders of the mentioned agencies to liaise with the committee’s clerk, ensuring they present the required documents promptly.
He also commented on the Ministry of Water Resources’ absence during the meeting and strongly advised them to schedule a new date with the committee.
Ihonvbere’s dissatisfaction continued as he rejected presentations made by the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, citing outdated and irrelevant documentation. The NRC, in particular, was criticized for submitting documents from previous years, which Ihonvbere deemed disrespectful. He instructed them to return with up-to-date documentation within 48 hours.
