Jonathan DPO, 30 Others Killed In Adamawa Attacks

boko harram attacksThere has been massive security deployment to Adamawa state, following coordinated attacks on five villages in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state in which a Divisional Police Officer, DPO and at least 30 others are feared killed.
The immediate cause of the attacks was not known, but reports indicate that suspected Fulani men ransacked the five villages predominantly occupied by Garta and other minority groups.
According to reports from the area, the attacks may have been reprisal attack over a feud between the local farmers and herdsmen, who were said to have suffered heavy casualties some few weeks back.
It was reliably gathered that the invaders were mostly foreigners suspected to have been hired as mercenaries by the Fulani herdsmen.
As the time of filling this report, most of the villagers were said to have fled the area while heavily armed military men were said to have taken over the affected villages.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Okezie Okereofor, was allegedly ambushed by the herdsmen as he was leading police officers into the villages under attack by the herdsmen.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command (PPRO), Othman Abubakar, confirmed the death of DPO Okereofor, but maintained that the situation is “under control” and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Meanwhile nationalTRAIL learnt last night that neighbouring communities, both in the affected local government and Demsa Local Government area, were fleeing the area in their numbers for fear of possible attacks.
