Kano Govt Solicits Assistance For Singer Market Fire Victims

Kano state government has expressed appreciation to the House of Representatives for showing concern to the people of the state, especially the traders at Singer Market who lost property worth billions of Naira in an inferno recently.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this when a delegation from the House, under the leadership of its Chief Whip, Alasan Ado Doguwa paid a commiseration visit to the state government.
Dr. Ganduje explained that the state government is collaborating with federal government to assist the victims, pointing out that already, a Commission of Inquiry under a former High Court Judge, Justice Wada Rano, has been constituted to assess the damage and find out reasons for rampant fire outbreaks in markets across the state.
The governor described the fire outbreak at Singer market as an unfortunate incident, lamenting that despite the effort of the state Fire Service and other industrial fire fighters, the extent of damage was very enormous.
He stated that it has been confirmed that there was no loss of lives as a result of the fire, expressing the hope that the federal government, through its emergency relief agency NEMA, would do its best to alleviate the plight of the victims.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Alasan Ado Doguwa said the Speaker, House Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara mandated a 20-man committee to visit the state and sympathize with the government and its people over the sad incident, noting that the committee was highly disturbed by the level of damage done by the fire.
Hon. Doguwa disclosed that the committee would write a report on the incidence, pointing out that its recommendations would include how to avert recurrence, adding that the House of Representatives would collaborate with the Presidency to assist the victims.
