Katsina State Governor Commits to MSME Development in Collaboration with SMEDAN

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has affirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering effective collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, (SMEDAN).

The governor made this pronouncement when he received the agency’s management led by the Director General Mr. Charles Odii.

Governor Radda expressed his dedication to supporting MSMEs in the state, emphasizing the importance of developing and protecting the Industrial Development Center (IDC) in the state.

He highlighted the provision of robust security measures to safeguard MSMEs, aiming to ensure that the state takes pride in developing these enterprises.

Governor Radda also outlined his vision for creating similar opportunities in the three senatorial zones of the state.

He expressed the desire to establish two or more Industrial hubs to encourage productivity among the people.

According to the governor,. “this intervention is crucial for the growth of MSMEs in the state”.

Governor Radda believes that with seriousness and concerted efforts, the state could secure funding for MSMEs, offering employment opportunities and creating wealth for the youth.

He expressed confidence in the new leadership of SMEDAN, advising the management to collaborate with both the private and public sectors to achieve their objectives.

Drawing from his past experience heading the agency, the governor emphasized the need for swift action during the limited tenure.

“You know we have a four-year tenure, and for you to achieve what you want, you need to move faster,” he advised.

Earlier, SMEDAN Director General Charles Odii assured the governor of the agency’s readiness to partner with the state in MSME development. He welcomed the governor’s intent to visit the new corporate Headquarters of the agency, a project conceptualised and executed by the Governor and affirmed SMEDAN’s commitment to achieving its mandate under the new leadership.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
