The Delta State Police Command successfully rescued four individuals who were kidnapped near the Orerokpe Bridge in the Okpe Local Government Area. The rescue operation, initiated after a distress call on September 11, 2023, was spearheaded by the DPO of the Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul Oboware, alongside the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes. The kidnappers, seeking a N10m ransom, were cornered in nearby forests and were forced to abandon their victims and flee.
DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, confirmed the incident, stating that all the rescued individuals have been safely reunited with their families, and efforts to capture the absconding suspects continue.
Separately, a team from the DPO Orerokpe Division, collaborating with Aragba vigilantes, detained a man named Sunday Yerakpo. He was found carrying four new locally-manufactured guns hidden beneath his motorcycle seat. Investigations revealed Yerakpo’s involvement in arms trading, and efforts are underway to apprehend his associates, Ose Ogboyen and “Saputu.”
Additionally, on September 9, police from the Ogulagha Police post apprehended Prince Diegbegha in the Burutu LGA after discovering a Makarov pistol at his residence. Diegbegha reportedly purchased the weapon in 2018 from a now-deceased individual named Oshimili. Investigations regarding this case are also ongoing.
CP Wale Abass, the state’s Commissioner of Police, reiterated the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of Delta State residents. He stressed the importance of peace preservation and encouraged the public to provide any helpful information to the police, assuring them of confidentiality.
