A 65-year-old night guard, Oluwole Akinola, has been arrested by
the operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
for allegedly abducting two minors for days and sexually assaulting them while they were in his custody.

The spokesman of the NSCDC in the State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday, said the Gender-based Violence Unit of the Corps is currently interrogating the suspect, while the two victims are also helping in the investigation.

“It will be recalled that one of the victims’ father, Borokini Oluwaseun, 32, of Aduralere Street, Ilorin, came to the NSCDC office to complain that his 12 years old daughter, Semilore, who has been declared missing for some days was found in the custody of one Akinola Oluwole, 65, who lives in Shao garage area of the metropolis,” Babawale narrated.

He explained further that timely arrival of the NSCDC operatives saved the suspect from being lynched, saying the people of the neighbourhood lamented that, that would not be the first time Oluwole would be accused of rape and sexual molestation of minors in the neighbourhood.

In his preliminary statement, the suspect, who claimed to have lost his wive 15 years ago, was said to have denied sexually assaulting the minors, adding that the two girls actually approached him to shelter them which he did for days, but he did not sleep with them.

In the meantime, the state commandant Iskil Makinde Iskil Ayinla has ordered that the two minors should undergo further medical examinations, while the case be transfered to the Gender- based violence unit of the corps for proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
