The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has made substantial progress in its efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and protect vulnerable individuals within the state.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday at the state Command headquarters in Ilorin, Commandant Umar JG Mohammed disclosed that the Gender Unit has attended to159 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) over the last one year, including 76 cases of domestic violence, physical assault and intimidation, 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility, 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 cases of threats to life and two cases of missing children.
He noted that several cases are currently in court and assured the public that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land.
Dr Umar reiterated the Corps’ unwavering stance of zero tolerance for Gender-Based Violence, while expressing the Corps’ commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to aggressively combat these societal menaces.
He, therefore, urged members of the public to support the Corps by providing actionable intelligence to help prevent crime in the state.
