LG Election: APC Members Decry Imposition of Candidates
By Ikhili Monday EBALU, Benin city
As the race for the local government election hits in Edo state, a social political group, Egor Voice for Credible Election, on has described as unacceptable party leaders decision in Eor Local Government and at the state level of the All Progressives Congress, APC to impose an unpopular candidate for the chairmanship position in the forthcoming local government election scheduled to hold on the 3rd of March, 2018.
Leader of the group, Nosa Osagiede said the resolution of leaders of local government executive and ward chairmen of APC in Egor chapter condemned the alleged imposition of a female chairmanship aspirant by leaders of the party in Egor against the people’s wish and consensus candidacy of Dr. Osaretin George Izevbuwa as the sole party candidate.
Nosa Osagiede who frowned at the imposition of candidate in the forthcoming local government election across the 18 local government particularly in Egor said the choice of Dr. Osaretin George Izevbuwa is in line with the zoning structure of the local government which has now zoned the chairmanship position toward one to five Egor axis and the vice chairmanship to ward 6 and 10 Uselu axis.
He said the party has resolved to balance the political power equation in the interest of fair play and justice for all by adopting Dr. Osaretin George Izevbuwa as the sole party candidate for the chairmanship in Egor local government council.
Osagiede who said the choice of Dr. Osaretin has the backing and support of all the 10 wards leaders in Egor as well as massive support of youth in the council area called on the state governor to ensure fair play during party primaries for peace and a transparent local government election in the local government.
Osagiede said all chairmanship aspirants in Egor local government area in the forthcoming local government election has unanimously decided to step down and endorse Dr. Osaretin George as the sole candidate of APC in March 3 local government election and wondered why some selfish political leaders are bent on imposing the unpopular female aspirant against the wish of the people of Egor.
“Our decision to step down and endorse Dr. Osaretin is predicated on our believe that Dr. Osaretin George Izevbuwa, having considered his educational background and administrative experience, he is the right candidate to take Egor local government council out of its present financial difficulties and reposition it as a leading local government in the state and also, for the interest of peace, progress and unity of APC members in the local government”, Osagiede said.
