The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) made a startling revelation yesterday when it announced that the agency has arrested a suspect for allegedly duping 9,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of N27 million under the guise of supplying foods stuffs to their camps.
The Borno State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abdullahi Ibrahim who disclosed this to newsmen said the suspect whose name was given as Bukar Ladan age 50 was arrested in Mairi area of Maiduguri.
According to the Commandant, the suspect was alleged to have collected N300 each from the 9, 000 IDPs currently taking refuge in different camps in the state capital, Maiduguri.
“Our men found out that some of the women in the IDPs camps were grumbling that they have paid for food supply without being delivered; it is very unfortunate that some people will go to this length and defraud this people who had suffered great trauma in the hands of Boko Haram insurgency.
“After going to the man’s house, we discovered that he did not have anything worth N10, 000. We don’t know what they are using the money for, but we are still investigating him”, Ibrahim said.
Speaking further, the Commandant cautioned Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs to be vigilant and wary of scrupulous elements’ activities in the society who are so heartless that they dupe even the needy to get rich quick.
In another development, the National Commission for Refugees, NCR has distributed relief materials to Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and returnees from Cameroon who are currently being sheltered in Gamboru Ngala of Borno State.
The relief materials distributed according to the Commission include mobile clinic, foodstuff, building materials, primary school materials and household items like bedding materials or bed sheets, plastic buckets and bowls as well as leather mats, detergents, soaps, sanitary items among others.
The items were said to have been presented to the Caretaker Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Abdulrahman Abdulkarim for onward distribution to the returnees and other beneficiaries.
The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees NCR, Hajiya Hadiza Kangiwa who made the presentation told the Chairman that the items were meant for the returnees who flee Nigeria due to the Boko Haram insurgency.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
