MUSINGS OVER NORTHERN MUSLIM UMMAH AND THEIR MISPLACED IDEA OF INCLUSSIVENESS.
By: Inuwa Bwala
Either for mischief or sheer propaganda, I read a piece purportedly written by an amorphous Northern Muslim Ummah: in which they called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to shop for a Christian Northerner as his running mate in 2027.
As a Northern Christian who has been a witness to the mischief and propaganda that trailed the 2023 elections and the attendant fallouts from it, I find it rather intriguing that the perceptions and fears of the 2023 elections are being recycled, even when they have been proven to be misplaced.
It has been two years of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidency, and we have not seen what people feared will happen to Christians under a Muslim/Muslim ticket. Rather, Christians seem to be more comfortable given unfolding events under the perceived dreaded Muslim/Muslim leadership of Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not turned out to be the Pharoh, neither has Shettima turned into the anti-Christian agent, they feared he would be.
It is only in an environment like Nigeria that one can disguise under any name and use such name for propaganda without being put under check.
This is perhaps the light under which an amorphous group of self styled individuals, masquerading as Northern Muslim Ummah could dubiously claim to be speaking the minds of Northern Muslims on the choice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubus would be running mate in the 2027 general elections.
Although I am not a Muslim, I could tell the mind of the average Northern Nigerian Muslim on the issue and can rightfully interpret the statement credited to this faceless group as a facade.
Contrary to pre election permutations, Nigerians have not seen the monsters Tinubu and Shettima were predicted to be.
Going by the two year evaluation of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidency, one may not be wrong to say there is light at the end of the tunnel.
And if the ticket is working, I do not see the wisdom in changing a winning team.
Proponents of religious politics may have seen that Nigerians have grown beyond the stage of choosing leaders based on their religion, tribe or region.
We have not yet seen the end of the Tinubu/Shettima transformations, and it will be most uncharitable to attempt shifting the goalpost in the middle of the game.
Just a word for the so-called Northern Muslim Ummah.

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Shehu Kambile, has resigned from his position as Special Assistant to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

According to Kambile, his appointment was made under the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) framework, which was created to foster unity and collaboration among Nigeria’s political parties.
He stated that stepping down would enable him to build a stronger and more effective opposition in the state.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Governor Fintiri, but I have decided to step aside and dedicate myself fully to my primary mandate of building a robust and credible opposition. We need an opposition that can serve as a viable alternative for the people,” he said.
Kambile expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for the opportunity to serve in his administration and commended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his continued efforts in promoting inclusive political engagement.
