N85bn Required For Proposed 10,000 New Recruits – IGP

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase has said that the sum of about N8.5 billion is being awaited from the federal government in order to carry out the 10,000 recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force as approved by President Mohammadu Buhari.
The Police Boss who made this revelation while addressing officers and men of the force during his tour of Benue State Police Command in Makurdi over the weekend also pointed out that during the recruitment exercise, priority will be given to both human and Vetnery and Human Doctors; pointing out that applicants with driving competency would an added advantage.
He disclosed that over 40,000 officers of the force have been promoted to superior ranks since this in fulfillment of his promise when he was assumed duty last year and assured that he will ensure that those on course are provided with feeding allowances as was against the system before he took over the mantle of leadership.
Speaking further, the IGP the force under him is undertaking to build housing units for staff at N2.5million for beneficiaries to pay within five years and requested Benue state government to made land available to start the scheme in the state and challenged officers to be good models by not wearing Tatar uniform as well rickety vehicles to work and to shun corrupt practices as anyone caught will be prosecuted in line with the law.
While urging officers of the command to be civil and respect the rights of citizens so as to build the community partnership with members of the public therefore charged Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to embrace what he described as “non stake actors” such as media men, Doctors, Drivers among others so that they can volunteer information to the police to burst crime in the society.
Fielding questions from officers and men of the command, Mr. Arase who donated the sum of N200.000 to one of the officers with a financial challenge promised to ensure that hospitals and accommodations are given priority attention since only the motivated force will do their best and warned them against delving into civil matters such settlement of debts and land issues.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner of Police, Paul Yakadi said the presence of IGP Arase alone has ease tension in the minds of Benue people following the attacks by suspected herders to farmers in some parts of the state; officers of the command have been up to the task of maintaining peace and order in the state.
According to him, much have been achieved in the command under IGP Arase and call for more of such incentives for officers to maintain their tempo of vigilance in crime prevention
