In a series of coordinated military offensives over the weekend, Nigerian Army troops neutralized a wanted terrorist commander, Abba Alai (Amirul Khahid of Alafa), and several other insurgents in Bama and Gwoza, Borno State.
The four-hour-long gun battle saw troops dismantling terrorist strongholds and recovering a large cache of deadly weapons, including:
- 11 Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs
- 760 rounds of 7.62mm linked ammunition
- 220 rounds of 12.7mm linked ammunition
- One AK-47 rifle
- 440 rounds of 7.62mm by 54mm ammunition
- GPMGs, Mowag armored tank engine, anti-aircraft guns, and machine guns
Successful Rescue Operations & Further Crackdowns
- Katsina State: Troops freed 10 captives, including seven women and three children, from a terrorist commander who surrendered, handing over two AK-47 rifles.
- Delta State: Soldiers captured high-profile IPOB/ESN commander, Ekene Ifeanyi, in a hideout within Issele Asagba Forest, Oshimili South LGA.
- Gwoza LGA: In Gobara village, insurgents abandoned weapons and fled, leaving behind a cache of ammunition and firearms.
- Hostage Rescue: Troops also rescued an elderly woman who had been held captive by terrorists for 10 years.
Army’s Statement on Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist operations across the country. The latest offensives targeted regrouping insurgents preparing to attack villages around Fallujah. With superior firepower, troops overpowered them, securing significant military gains.
The Army’s operations continue, ensuring terrorist enclaves are wiped out and communities are protected from further attacks.
