The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has attributed the recent surge in fuel scarcity to logistical challenges. In a statement released by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, the company acknowledged the difficulties faced in some areas across the country but assured that the issues have been resolved.
Despite these assurances, the scarcity persists, particularly in Abuja and Kaduna. Residents are grappling with long queues at filling stations and increased transport fares due to limited availability of fuel.
Motorists in Abuja expressed frustration as they struggled to find fuel, with some resorting to purchasing from black market vendors at inflated prices. The closure of many filling stations has exacerbated the situation, leaving commuters stranded and forcing them to seek alternative means of transportation.
Similarly, in Kaduna, the scarcity has reached critical levels, with motorists paying exorbitant prices for fuel from black market sources. Commuters are faced with lengthy waits for transportation and inflated fares, adding to the challenges caused by the fuel shortage.
The NNPC’s reassurance notwithstanding, the impact of the scarcity continues to be felt by residents, underscoring the urgency of addressing the underlying issues in the fuel supply chain. As the situation persists, affected communities are grappling with the implications of the shortage on daily life and economic activities.
