Once Again, Blaze Engulfs Borno Market

A fire has once again ravaged the Gamboru market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. This recent incident marks the third time the market, known as the largest perishable goods market in Maiduguri, has been affected by fire. Previous incidents occurred on March 18, 2023, and November 13, 2023.

Confirming the latest incident, Borno State’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Alhaji Usman Tar, stated that the fire erupted at the Layin Yan Katako and outer sections of the market on Wednesday around 10 pm. The swift response of the Borno State Fire Service prevented any loss of life, and the security of the market was not compromised.

Tar assured that both the fire service and the State Emergency Management Agency are conducting an assessment to determine the causes and prevent future occurrences. The state government pledges to take proactive measures to address fire disasters.

He urged the public to maintain order and ensure the market’s safety, expressing condolences to those affected and gratitude to the first responders for their swift action.
