In a distressing incident near the Osun and Kwara states border, one person was tragically killed while four others were abducted during their return from a business trip in Aworo Village near Agbamu, Kwara State. Mrs. Grace Adepoju, the Iyalode of Oyan, her surveyor, and four companions were ambushed and taken hostage around 6:30 pm last Monday. Although Adepoju managed to escape the next day, the others were held captive despite local hunters, Amotekun Corps, and police officers’ attempts to secure their release.
During the rescue mission, two individuals suspected of aiding the kidnappers were arrested by Kwara State police after they were spotted making suspicious calls in the area. A source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the kidnappers released four hostages in a Kwara community on Sunday, following an alleged ransom payment of N7m. Tragically, one captive did not survive the ordeal.
Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, confirmed the release of the four hostages and the unfortunate death of the fifth. Adeleke also announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the crime but refrained from commenting on the ransom payment.
