Bright Osayi-Samuel, the Super Eagles defender, has broken his silence on the recent altercation during a Turkish Super Lig match between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor. Following Trabzonspor’s 3-2 home loss to Fenerbahce, Osayi-Samuel was caught in a video confronting enraged Trabzonspor fans.
In the footage, Osayi-Samuel is seen defending his teammates against the aggressive fans, even knocking down a pitch invader in the process. Speaking about the incident, Osayi-Samuel emphasized that the altercation was an act of self-defense, as the fans had attacked the team, some even carrying weapons. He revealed that his teammates suffered cuts and bruises from the confrontation, and he, along with several others, stepped in to protect the team.
Reflecting on the match, Osayi-Samuel described the victory over Trabzonspor as particularly satisfying, considering it avenged their earlier defeat to the same team at home in the first round of the league.
Fenerbahce’s win puts them at 79 points, just two points behind league leaders Galatasaray, with eight rounds of matches remaining in the season.
Osayi-Samuel is slated to maintain his position in Nigeria’s starting lineup for their upcoming international friendly against Mali on Tuesday in Marrakech, Morocco.
