The Anambra State Police Command successfully thwarted a planned robbery operation along the Ebenebe-Achalla Road in Awka North Local Government Area. The operation, which occurred on Monday, was carried out by the Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu while on an anti-kidnapping patrol. The operation was initiated following a tip-off from a vigilant resident who had spotted the robbery suspects carrying guns on a motorcycle.

According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, the suspects attempted to engage the approaching operatives in a shootout, but the well-prepared officers quickly overcame them. As a result, the suspects abandoned their weapons and fled into the nearby bushes.

During a subsequent search of the area, the operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles loaded with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and expended rounds.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the team for their gallant response and urged them to intensify proactive operations in the region to completely eliminate criminal elements that pose a threat to the safety of citizens.
