Poverty: Bauchi Shares 30,000 Bags Of Food Items

By Sule ALIYU, Bauchi Bauchi State relief materials distribution committee chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Adam Disina has vowed that the committee will strictly abide by the guidelines and laid- down procedures of the materials distribution given it by the state government. “We will be very strict in following the guidelines and laid- down procedures of the relief materials distribution and would forcibly crash down any obstacle to be mounted by any person, group or organization in our charted course of ensuring that the materials reach the desired destinations”, he said. Sheikh Ibrahim Disina in an interview with journalists in Bauchi shortly after the relief material distribution flag-off by Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, said however that if the committee is unable to surmount envisaged obstacles, it will definitely hands back the assignment to the government. Disina said that his committee members confidently and whole- heatedly accepted to serve on their individual appointed capacities with the firm believe that the assignment is purely humanitarian geared to salvage the less-privileged from the shackles of poverty, hunger and want. The chairman, who prayed to Allah to afford them the opportunity to creditably execute the assigned responsibility, said however that the committee would alternatively
adopt either of the two strategies now under members’ consideration in the distribution of the relief materials. “I will not pre-empt the committee members to disclose the two strategies being considered, but by the grace of God we will get the best that could tailor the need of beneficiaries of the relief materials”, he stated. He appealed to the people to give the committee all necessary support and cooperation in the discharge of its onerous responsibility, and assured that they will not betray the confidence repose in them. It could be recalled that the Bauchi State governor, Muhammad Abubakar, has flagged off the distribution of 30, 000 bags of assorted food stuff items to the less privileged in the state. Speaking at the ceremony at the SEMA store in Bauchi, the Governor said the state government procured 10 trailers foreign rice, 20 trailers of Millet and 5 trailers of Sugar for distribution to the downtrodden and the poor in the society to alleviate their current suffering. He explained that 15 trailers of maize was sent by President Muhammadu Buhari, for distribution to the people of the state adding that more were still going to be brought in by his administration. Abubakar said the gesture was in fulfillment of his recent promise to the people of the state when the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, extended a similar gesture to the state.
