President Bola Tinubu has promised better living and working conditions for all Nigerians of working age, emphasizing that workers deserve fair wages and enhanced welfare.

In his inaugural May Day message dedicated to workers nationwide, conveyed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu affirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers. He highlighted various relief programs, including wage awards and an upcoming minimum wage review.

Tinubu emphasized that workers deserve fair compensation and optimal working conditions, stating his dedication to enhancing their welfare and providing necessary tools for success.

These assurances come amidst a cost of living crisis attributed to economic reforms implemented by Tinubu’s administration, including the discontinuation of petrol subsidies and unification of foreign exchange rates. While these measures aimed at fiscal responsibility and economic growth, they also led to currency instability and increased food prices, impacting Nigerians’ livelihoods.

Defending the removal of petrol subsidies at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Saudi Arabia, Tinubu emphasized its necessity to prevent economic bankruptcy and reset the economy towards growth.

On May Day, Tinubu hailed Nigerian workers for their dedication to the nation’s peace, progress, and development. He commended workers across various sectors for their tireless efforts, from clerical officers to security personnel, teachers, and doctors, recognizing their essential role in sustaining the nation’s progress and prosperity.
