By Milcah Tanimu

Lawmakers aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara have successfully screened and confirmed Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as a Commissioner in the Rivers State Executive Council. Iboroma underwent the confirmation process during a session held at the Auditorium of the Administrative Block Building of Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Iboroma’s appearance followed a request from Governor Fubara to the lawmakers to screen and approve him for the commissioner position. The nominee was escorted to the House floor by the Sergeant-at-Arms, David Wariboko.

During the screening, Iboroma fielded questions and pledged his allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as to Governor Fubara and the State. He also committed to upholding his oath of office and contributing his professional expertise to the state’s governance.

Following debates over Iboroma’s confirmation, the pro-Fubara Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, called for a vote, which resulted in the lawmakers expressing confidence in the nominee and confirming him as a commissioner in the State Executive Council.

Oko-Jumbo instructed the House Clerk, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, to communicate the House’s resolution to the Governor. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for facilitating an alternative venue for the lawmakers to conduct their legislative duties, particularly in light of the temporary setback caused by the burning of the State House of Assembly chambers by hoodlums on October 29, 2023.
