Reps to Host National Dialogue on Security, State Police Next Week

The House of Representatives has concluded necessary arrangement in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, PLAC, and the United Nations Development Programme,UNDP, among others to convene a One-Day National Dialogue on Security and State Police in Abuja next week.

This was contained in a statement signed by the House of Representatives Spokesman, Hon.Akin Rotimi, made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the primary objective of the Dialogue is to facilitate a comprehensive national discussion on the merits and challenges of State Police with a focus on aggregating citizens’ views and perspectives.

The statement further disclosed that the event is aims at proposing a models as well as institutional and legal frameworks for the effective implementation of state policing in the country.

It stated that the summit is in alignment with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, which seeks to develop legislative measures to address the prevailing security challenges across the country.

“This Dialogue complement the president’s ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen the country’s security architecture for optimal performance”.

The event is slated to take place next Monday, being , 22nd April 2024 in Abuja.

The Special guest to grace the occasion is: President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief Federal Republic of Nigeria while the senate president, Godwill Akpabio among other countries representatives will also be in attendance.

The statement further stated that the Chairman of the occasion will be Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Former President of Nigeria as well as Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Head of State.

“Other invited guests includes: State Governors, Diplomatic Community among others.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas will host the occasion.

The speaker according to the statement has always emphasized the urgency of the National Dialogue, stating that: “Insecurity in Nigeria demands urgent action and collective responsibility”.

“The National Dialogue on Security and State Police will provides a crucial platform for us to come together and engage in constructive dialogue, and propose actionable solutions”.

He explained:”Let us seize this opportunity to strengthen our security architecture and ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.”, he stressed.
