The Nigeria Senate on Thursday moves for the upgrade the Federal Polytechnics, Ilaro and Yaba College of Technology Yaba to universities of technology
The Bills were sponsored by Senator representing Lagos West senatorial district Solomon Adeola.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, said the upgrade of the two institutions would go a long way in spreading education infrastructure and balanced access to education by Nigerian.
Senator Adeola, in his contribution, said the Bills are in line with his legislative agenda to enhance and develop educational institutions and human resources.
He added the passage of the bills would address the need to expand the opportunities for youths seeking admission into universities.
The Senator noted upgrade of the institutions will address the issue of unemployment as well as boost the economy of the host communities through usage of technological innovations.
Stakeholders from the host communities of the three institutions presented oral and written memoranda in support of the bills.
