The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has officially declared the seats of Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo and Tanko Sununu vacant. This declaration followed the submission of separate resignation letters by the former lawmakers during the plenary session on Tuesday.
Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo had represented Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West of Ondo state, while Tanko Sununu had represented Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency of Katsina.
The speaker’s decision to declare the seats vacant aligns with Section 68 of the 1999 constitution.
It is worth noting that President Tinubu had appointed Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo as the Minister of Interior and Tanko Sununu as the Minister of State for Education.
As a result of these developments, Salisu Majigiri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been sworn in as a new member of the House of Representatives to fill the vacant seats.
