Suspension, Counter Suspension Hit Edo APC

Published

By Ikhili Monday EBALU, Benin City
All is yet to be heard in Edo state as the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uhunmwode Local government area of Edo State has assumed a new dimension as 19 of the 26 Ward 6 Executives,(Umagbae South)  has passed a vote of Confidence on the Chairman of the Ward Mr. Godwin Obamwonyi.
The vote of confidence on the Ward chairman is coming on the heels of his suspension by the secretary of the party and four others leaders, they insisted have no power to suspend the chairman and described their action as laughable.
In a resolution jointly signed by the Youth Leader of the party in the local government, Mr. Osaro Ekuase and Publicity Secretary of the Ward, Mr. Philip Idahor, other Ward executives members and ward leaders, they stated that they not surprised as the reign of impunity currently pervasive in the administration of the party was taking its toll at every level.
The Ward leaders also announced the suspension of the Secretary of the ward Lucky Igbinidu and the Vice Chairman Mr. Rawson Iyamu for engaging in illegality and causing disaffection in the ward when a majority of the Executive members were not informed of the purported suspension of the Chairman.
They were asked to appear before a disciplinary committee to be chaired by Mr. Ada Osasu with Messrs Peter Aiyamenkhue and Joseph Aigiomwanhi as members
They asked, “Does a ward secretary have power to suspend a party chairman with non executive members?
“It is our contention that again that the purported suspension is of no effect as a vast majority of the ward executives hereby affirm our confidence in the Chairman Mr. Godwin Obamwonyi and his submission that Hon. Samson Osagie and others illegally suspended in March did not commit any anti party and were never given fair hearing at the LGA and the matter was never discussed at any ward meeting that he as Chairman presided over.
“No amount of intimidation can stop the immutability of the truth as the Chairman spoke the truth for which he is now been persecuted by the powers that be.
“He did not breach any provision of the Party’s constitution. Instead those who purported to suspend him are in contempt of the provision of Article 21 on the matter. He concluded.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
