The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released data revealing the top 10 states with the highest number of internet users in Nigeria. According to the NBS database, the total number of internet subscribers in the country reached 163.8 million as of December 2023.
Despite challenges such as the removal of subsidy and the floating of the naira, internet usage in Nigeria has witnessed significant growth, reflecting increased digital connectivity among citizens.
In comparison to the previous year (2021), which recorded 154.8 million internet users, there has been a 1.35 percent increase, marking a 9.07 percent growth in internet subscribers for the sector during the period under review.
The top 10 states with the highest number of internet users in Nigeria for the fourth quarter of 2023, based on NBS data, are as follows:
- Lagos: 18.9 million internet users
- Ogun: 9.5 million internet users
- Kano: 9 million internet users
- Oyo: 8.4 million internet users
- Kaduna: 7.4 million internet users
- FCT (Abuja): 5.8 million internet users
- Rivers: 5.6 million internet users
- Adamawa: 5.4 million internet users
- Katsina: 4.6 million internet users
- Delta: 4.4 million internet users
These states demonstrate high levels of digital connectivity and reflect the growing importance of internet access in various regions across Nigeria.
