A 59-year-old trader, Folorunsho Ilori, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N1 million.
Ilori, who resides in Oke-Odo area of Lagos, is facing three-counts charge of conspiracy, breaking in and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some other persons still at large in July at Abule-Egba, Lagos.
Ihiehie said that the defendant broke into the shop belonging to Mrs Mariam Abdulsalam and carted away goods valued at N1 million.
“The defendant burgled the shop, stole beverages and home care products,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 309 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Our correspondent reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 309 attracts seven years for breaking in.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Layinka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Layinka ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjoured the case until Oct. 20 for mention.
