The All Progressives Congress (APC) cautioned the New Nigeria People’s Party’s Kano State government against tarnishing the reputation of the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal’s Chairman, Justice Flora Azinge, due to its lackluster defense at the tribunal.
The APC criticized the state government’s attempt to smear the tribunal chairman, fearing the potential final judgment. They accuse the government of fabricating stories and taking Justice Azinge’s words out of context, which disrespects both the judge and the judiciary.
In a statement by the spokesperson for the Gawuna/Gari Campaign Council, Mallam Muhammad Garba, he clarified that Justice Azinge, while revealing an alleged bribery attempt, never specified any party.
Garba accused the Kano state government of using these tactics to discredit the APC. He pointed out that the NNPP government, in its attempt to defame the APC, labeled them as the bribe offerer. This move, according to Garba, seeks to shift blame and garner public sympathy should the NNPP lose.
The APC spokesperson noted the state government’s premature appeal, despite the tribunal’s ongoing proceedings. He asserted the APC’s innocence, emphasizing their reliance on evidence and witnesses, unlike the NNPP which failed to provide credible witnesses.
Garba assured the APC’s dedication to legal proceedings, expressing confidence in regaining their mandate.
