Abass Mimiko, a medical doctor and younger brother of former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, has emerged as the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for the forthcoming November 16 governorship election in the state.
Mimiko’s candidacy was affirmed through a consensus process during the party’s primary election held at the ZLP secretariat in Akure, the state capital.
Expressing his priorities upon his emergence, Mimiko emphasized his commitment to addressing key issues such as education, health, economy, and security in the state. He pledged to ensure food security within a year of assuming office, as well as prioritize affordable quality education, industrialization, housing, and free health services for all residents.
Despite belonging to different political parties, Mimiko disclosed that his brother, the former governor, fully supports his gubernatorial aspiration, endorsing him as a candidate who would build on the achievements of the past administration.
In his address, the National Secretary of the ZLP, Yahaya Wakama, conveyed the party’s readiness to contest and secure victory in the upcoming election. He urged party members to rally behind the chosen candidate, emphasizing the collective effort required for success.
The ZLP also conducted its state congress during which Cornelius Akintoye emerged as the new state chairman of the party in Ondo State. This development signals the party’s organizational preparedness and determination to contest vigorously in the gubernatorial election.
