Tragedy struck in Madaka community, Rafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, as bandits unleashed violence in a market, resulting in multiple casualties.

Reports indicate that the assailants stormed the market at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, a time when the market was bustling with activity, and began shooting indiscriminately at innocent people.

Details surrounding the attack remain scarce as of the time of reporting, with one resident, speaking anonymously, indicating that the exact number of casualties is yet to be determined.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another bandit attack just two days prior in Pangu Gari, where the district head and four others tragically lost their lives.

Confirming the incident, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, acknowledged the attack. While he refrained from providing specific details, he assured that the state government is collaborating closely with security agencies to stem the tide of these incessant attacks on farming communities within the state.

The community remains in mourning as authorities continue efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
