Court Sentences Individual Impersonating EFCC Official to Three Years Imprisonment

Abdulazeez Isah from Kaduna State has been sentenced to prison after being apprehended for masquerading as an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Kaduna Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency disclosed that they have successfully secured a conviction and imposed a three-year prison term on the suspect for falsely representing himself as an EFCC employee.

Additionally, two other individuals, Abraham Adama and Uzoma Isaac Iwu, were also found guilty of fraud and received prison sentences from Justices Darius Khobo and A. Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court.

Isah was sentenced by Justice Isiaka after pleading guilty to a single charge of impersonation, while Adama was handed a two-year prison term for deceiving others by impersonating the renowned American actor Sylvester Stallone on social media. Similarly, Iwu was sentenced to three years for engaging in cybercrimes.

Isah’s charge stated that he falsely presented himself as an EFCC staff member, an offense punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law. Adama’s charge involved cheating by impersonation, while Iwu was accused of defrauding individuals by posing as another person and enticing them to invest in cryptocurrency.

All three defendants admitted their guilt, prompting the EFCC Counsels to request the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. Justices Isiaka and Khobo sentenced Isah and Adama, respectively, to prison terms or fines. Isah confessed to financing the production of counterfeit EFCC T-shirts, identity cards, and caps, which were seized upon his arrest. Adama impersonated Sylvester Stallone on social media, while Iwu engaged in internet fraud.

These convictions underscore the seriousness with which authorities are addressing fraudulent activities and impersonation, sending a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated in society.
