Edo NUJ Laud Gov. Obaseki On Appointment Of CPS

Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has commended the state governor, Godwin Obaseki for looking inwards and appointing one of its members and distinguished media icon, John Mayaki as his Chief Press Secretary.

Speaking in Benin city during a courtesy visit by the Edo state NUJ Executives to the governor, Edo State NUJ chairman, Sir Roland Osakwe said the appointment of Mr John Mayaki is most appreciated as the union is proud of him.

“We are very grateful to you your Excellency for appointing one of our own as your interim Chief Press Secretary. We assure you that Mr. John Mayaki will leave up to the challenges of the office.” Osakwe said.

The state NUJ chairman also lauded the leadership style of the state governor, just as he appealed to the governor for government support to the union in the area of implementation of weight-in-allowance for journalists working in state owned media establishments.

“The NUJ and indeed every good spirited people of Edo state are happy with the bold steps you have taken within the first few months of your administration. The policy thrust of your administration which is to grow the state economy and provide jobs for the teeming youths to meaningfully contribute to the economy is well received by the union and we can only encourage you to pursue it to its logical conclusion”, he said.

He reiterated the need for the state government implementation of the weight- in-Allowance for journalists working in the state owned media.

“It will interest you to note that this allowance has been approved by the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission following a request to that effect by the National Secretariat of the NUJ. We implore you to give immediate implementation of the allowance to enable practitioners in the state begin to enjoy it like their counterparts in other states”, Osakwe added.
