Eid-el-Fitri Tragedy: Vehicle Plunges off Third Mainland Bridge into Lagoon

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday on the recently rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge as a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the Lagos lagoon, raising fears of casualties.

The mishap occurred on the day of Eid-el-Fitri, as Nigerian Muslims marked the end of Ramadan.

Eyewitness Akinola Adeniyi recounted that the incident transpired around 11:30 am, as an unidentified vehicle traveling from Iyana-Oworo to the Island suddenly careened off the bridge and into the waters below.

Adeniyi attributed the accident to excessive speeding by the driver of the ill-fated vehicle.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Police, swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue efforts.

The incident led to a buildup of traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge heading towards the Island.

As investigations continue, a source within LASEMA indicated that efforts are ongoing to identify the individuals involved in the tragic accident.
