Shehu Sani Highlights Motive Behind Foreign Airlines’ Price Reduction

Shehu Sani recently took to social media to shed light on the underlying reason behind the reduction in airfares by foreign airlines, urging Nigerians to support domestic carriers for better regulation of the industry.

In his message, Sani emphasized that foreign airlines are slashing their prices primarily due to the presence of Air Peace in the market. He explained that these foreign carriers aim to drive Air Peace out of international routes by undercutting its fares, after which they would revert to monopolistic pricing practices. Sani urged Nigerians to prioritize local airlines, stating that doing so would effectively curb the dominance of foreign carriers.

This comes after Air Peace launched its Nigeria-London flight operations in March, designating Gatwick Airport as its destination. Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, accused foreign airlines operating on the same route of colluding to reduce prices and ultimately force Air Peace out of international operations.

In response, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, affirmed the Federal Government’s support for Air Peace’s Nigeria-London operations, commending Gatwick Airport for accommodating the airline.
