Today, amidst heightened anticipation, former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, arrived at the Ikeja State High Court in Lagos for his anticipated arraignment. This comes as a result of alleged abuse of office and the allocation of billions of dollars during his tenure.
Accompanied by his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole, Emefiele is set to face fresh charges comprising 26 counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi.
In a document dated April 3, 2024, and labeled ID/23787c/2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Emefiele of abusing his authority between 2022 and 2023 while in Lagos.
The commission asserts that the former CBN governor engaged in actions that were detrimental to the nation, allegedly directing the allocation of foreign exchange totaling $2,136,391,737.33 without proper bidding processes, thus prejudicing the rights of Nigerians.
