Family condemns the release of suspected murderer of Lagos chief.

On July 15, 2023, Fatai Jubril, the Baale of Lotu Town in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, was reportedly shot and killed over a land dispute. The horrific incident took place in front of his teenage daughter and wife. Despite the tragic nature of the crime, concerns have emerged regarding the release of the primary suspect by the Zone 2 Police Command.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, verified the incident and mentioned that efforts are underway to apprehend the involved culprits.

Ejiro, the late chief’s wife, provided a harrowing account of the incident. She described the trauma of being assaulted by over 50 thugs who stormed their home. Amidst the chaos, the prime suspect allegedly shot her husband dead while she watched.

Moshood, the brother of the deceased, expressed alarm after residents reported seeing the primary suspect freely roaming the area. He passionately called for the police to deliver justice, emphasizing the emotional scars and fear the family would endure if the suspect remained at large.

In a surprising turn, Hauwa Idris-Adamu, spokesperson for the Zone 2 Command, confirmed the suspect’s release on bail. While emphasizing that the investigations are still active, she explained that the situation on the day was complicated, with both parties bringing their respective supporters to the confrontation. The investigations now focus on determining which side’s firearm resulted in the Baale’s death.

During a visit to the deceased’s home, Ejiro further stressed that she witnessed the prime suspect shoot her husband. She recounted her desperate attempt to prevent her husband’s abduction by a large mob and the heartbreaking moment when he was shot dead in front of her and their daughter.
