A devastating fire erupted at the Kwara State High Court in GRA, Irin, early Tuesday morning, resulting in the destruction of property estimated at millions of naira.
Reports indicate that the fire consumed the complex, which housed approximately 40 offices and three courtrooms, causing extensive damage to furniture and office equipment.
The registry department and litigation office were among the areas severely affected by the inferno.
Confirming the incident, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, the State Director of Fire Service, attributed the fire outbreak to a power surge. In a statement issued to journalists in Ilorin, Olumuyiwa highlighted the swift response of the fire service upon receiving the distress call.
The statement commended the courageous efforts of firefighters who worked tirelessly to combat the blaze, risking their lives to prevent the complete destruction of the State High Court building. Despite facing significant challenges, the firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire, ultimately saving the structure from catastrophic loss.
An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed the critical role of electrical safety measures in preventing such incidents in the future.
