However, the re-election of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as Speaker has faced criticism.A former Minister of Communications and Trustee of Omoeko Pataki, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), expressed his dissatisfaction with the re-election of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. In a statement released by his Media Office on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, Olanrewaju criticized the decision to re-elect Obasa despite ongoing investigations against him, considering it an inappropriate and wrong choice. He argued that it is not suitable for an individual under investigation to hold such a key role unless they have been cleared of any allegations. Olanrewaju also expressed his disappointment at the disregard for his previous calls to appoint a Lagos native as Speaker, viewing Obasa’s re-election as a deliberate act of sidelining Lagos indigenes. He cited the clearance of Obasa by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) as the reason for his return, based on the need for stability and continuity in the Assembly.
