In a statement released by his Media Office on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, Olanrewaju criticized the decision to re-elect Obasa despite ongoing investigations against him, considering it an inappropriate and wrong choice. He argued that it is not suitable for an individual under investigation to hold such a key role unless they have been cleared of any allegations. Olanrewaju also expressed his disappointment at the disregard for his previous calls to appoint a Lagos native as Speaker, viewing Obasa’s re-election as a deliberate act of sidelining Lagos indigenes. He cited the clearance of Obasa by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) as the reason for his return, based on the need for stability and continuity in the Assembly.
