Funke Akindele’s Film ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ Hits N1 Billion in Box Office Earnings

Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele’s blockbuster film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ has achieved a significant milestone by grossing over N1 billion within 21 days of its release in cinemas. Akindele shared the accomplishment on her Instagram page, expressing gratitude to the audience in Nigeria and Ghana.

The movie, released on December 15, 2023, broke records by becoming the first Nollywood film to surpass N133 million in its opening weekend. It continued to shatter records by grossing over N613 million within the first 14 days, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film for the year 2023. On January 2, the film made history by reaching N854 million at the box office within 18 days, surpassing Akindele’s previous films, ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and ‘Omo Ghetto.’

‘A Tribe Called Judah’ features a star-studded cast, including Nse Ikpe Etim, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, Nosa Rex, Boma Akpore, Etinosa Idemudia, Fathia Balogun, Jide Achufusi, Olayode Juliana, Olumide Oworu, Paschaline Alex, Tobi Makinde, and Yvonne Jegede. The plot revolves around a woman named Jedidah Judah, who has five sons from five different men, each belonging to different tribes.

Akindele shared that the movie holds personal significance as it incorporates a part of her late mother’s story and addresses the challenges faced by many single parents and mothers in society. ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ is not only breaking records in Nigeria but is also showing in cinemas in Ghana and the United Kingdom.
