Latest developments in Borno state reveal that residents of Maiduguri, the state capital have been jubilating over the visit by the Economic and financial Crimes commission, EFCC, even as Law makers whose premises was invaded yesterday may have all fled out of fear that they will be arrested, for aiding the plunder of over N600 Billion belonging to 22 Local Government Areas of Borno which have not operated for the past four and a half years owing to Boko Haram activities.
Our correspondent reports that, Governor Kashim Shettima summoned an emergency meeting at the Government House to discuss the way out for Government officials, who are on the EFCC invitation list, but none of the Assembly members showed up having fled the city after their hurried adjournment yesterday as a result of the visit by the EFCC.
The House of Assembly complex remains deserted, as at time of filing this report, as EFCC officials who shunned Government invitations to negotiate are said to be lying in wait for any of their guests to show up. The anti graft agency has meanwhile pasted keep off signs on some houses believed to belong to members and top Government officials within Maiduguri.
The EFCC sources said had earlier sent letters of invitation to Borno state Government officials but Governor Shettima has taken up the matter, having spent weeks in Abuja trying in vain to reach out to EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, himself an indigene of Borno state orPres ident Buhari.
Efforts to speak to the embattled party Chairman, Ali Dalori were not successful as he has not been seen around, heightening fears that he may have been picked.Commissioners have also been avoiding the press since the matter became public.
