Man Remanded for Alleged Sexual Assault on Neighbor’s Eight-Year-Old Daughter

Owolabi Olabisi, a 27-year-old man, has been remanded at a correctional center by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for the alleged sexual assault of his neighbor’s eight-year-old daughter. Mr. Olabisi had pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault by penetration.

The state counsel, Abimbola Abolade, informed the court that the accused committed the offense on January 18, 2023, in Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos. Abolade stated that Mr. Olabisi allegedly sexually assaulted the eight-year-old girl by penetrating her vagina with a finger, a crime that contravenes the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).

Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Mr. Olabisi in the correctional facility pending the hearing of his bail application. The case is scheduled to resume on February 20 for the commencement of the trial. The punishment for sexual assault by penetration in Lagos State is life imprisonment.
