Military Apprehends Suspect in Killing of Police Officer in Plateau

Yakubu Shanano has been apprehended by troops of Operation Safe Haven for his alleged involvement in the killing of a mobile police officer in Plateau State. The unfortunate incident occurred in Bokkos Local Government Area, where the mobile police officer was attached to the military task force responsible for maintaining peace.

Captain Oya James, the spokesperson for the Military Taskforce, confirmed Shanano’s arrest along with 14 other suspects involved in various criminal activities, including kidnapping and drug peddling. The arrests were made during Operation Hakorin Damisa IV conducted from November 6 to November 13, 2023.

The statement issued by Captain Oya James revealed that among the arrests, Jerome Bulus Alamba and Denis Yohanna were apprehended on November 6 in Fang village, Riyom LGA, in connection with the murder of Abdulkarim Saidu on October 24, 2023.

Furthermore, on November 8, troops, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Pankshin Command, conducted a raid on the hideout of illicit drug peddlers at Bargar village in Kanam LGA. Four suspects were arrested during the operation and handed over to the NDLEA for further action.

The statement emphasized the commitment of Operation Safe Haven, led by Major General AE Abubakar, to the protection of law-abiding citizens in Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Bauchi states. The military commended the support of the populace and assured that all arrested suspects would be charged accordingly once investigations were concluded.
