Nigerians Urge Davido to Speak More on National Issues After Trump Comment

Published

on

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has come under criticism from some Nigerians after suggesting he would seek the intervention of United States President Donald Trump if the August 15 Osun State governorship election is allegedly rigged.

The singer’s remark sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users urging him to extend his advocacy beyond the Osun election and speak more consistently on issues affecting Nigerians.

Several critics argued that Davido appears more vocal when political developments involve his family, noting that his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is a key figure in Osun politics.

Some X users called on the singer to use his influence to draw attention to national issues, including economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and governance, rather than focusing solely on the Osun governorship election.

Others questioned why he did not speak as strongly on previous national political developments, while a few supported his stance and encouraged him to raise concerns about the conduct of the forthcoming election.

The reactions followed Davido’s warning that he would involve President Trump if the Osun governorship poll is not conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.

The comments have continued to generate debate online, with supporters and critics expressing differing views on the role public figures should play in Nigeria’s political discourse.

Kebbi APC Chieftain Withdraws Support for Tinubu Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, Adamu Yahaya, popularly known as Adam Fakai, has withdrawn his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as a lack of recognition from party leaders.

Fakai announced his decision in a statement, saying he would no longer promote the activities and programmes of the Tinubu administration after spending more than two years showcasing government projects and policies across the country.

According to him, he devoted his personal resources, time and energy to publicising the administration’s achievements because he believed in President Tinubu’s leadership and development agenda.

However, he said his efforts were neither acknowledged nor appreciated by APC leaders at the state and federal levels.

Fakai also alleged that some prominent political figures used photographs and videos of Federal Government projects he documented without giving him credit or reaching out to him.

He explained that the perceived lack of appreciation influenced his decision to discontinue promoting the administration, adding that he believes he might have received greater recognition if he were from another state.

Despite withdrawing his support, Fakai expressed gratitude to individuals who encouraged and supported him throughout the period.

The APC chieftain gained prominence on social media for travelling across Nigeria to document and publish photographs, videos and reports highlighting infrastructure projects and other development initiatives of the Tinubu administration.

Davido, Bashir Ahmad Set for Political Face-Off as Osun Campaigns Intensify

Published

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Bashir Ahmad appear set for a fresh political showdown in Osun State as campaigns intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The latest development follows a heated exchange between the duo on X after President Bola Tinubu held a telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle.

Celebrating the call, Davido posted that he “was there live” and had “witnessed history,” a remark that drew a response from Bashir Ahmad.

The former presidential media aide said he had bookmarked the singer’s post, suggesting that Davido would return to the platform to express disappointment after the governorship election.

Davido responded by mocking Ahmad over his reported performance in the APC primary election, where he allegedly polled 16 votes. He also accused the APC chieftain of failing to make a meaningful impact in his community despite serving in government for eight years.

In a follow-up post, Ahmad announced that he would be in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, from August 11 to participate in the APC’s campaign activities.

“I will be in Osogbo from 11th, David,” Ahmad wrote.

Meanwhile, political activities have intensified across Osun State as parties step up campaigns ahead of the governorship poll. The APC is campaigning for its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party.
