Pat Utomi: Buba Galadima and I Have Been Political Rivals for 50 Years

Published

Former presidential candidate and political economist, Pat Utomi, has revealed that he and Buba Galadima have been political rivals for over five decades but have remained close friends despite their differences.

Utomi made the remark in Abuja during the inauguration of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) National Reconciliation Committee, established to resolve internal disputes arising from the party’s congresses, convention and primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, Utomi expressed confidence that the committee would reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the party before the elections.

“I feel humble and challenged by this assignment. Buba Galadima and I have been fighting for 50 years, and we are still very good friends. That shows it is possible for people with differences to come together and work for a common future,” he said.

Utomi described the NDC as a forward-looking political party focused on empowering young Nigerians, noting that the country’s median age is about 19.5 years.

He stressed that the party is committed to building a platform that reflects the aspirations of the younger generation.

The crisis within the NDC stems from disagreements over congresses, primary elections and other internal party matters.

To address the lingering disputes, the party inaugurated a 23-member National Reconciliation Committee in Abuja on August 6, 2026.

The committee, chaired by Utomi with Buba Galadima serving as co-chairman, has been tasked with mediating disputes, reconciling aggrieved members and fostering unity within the party ahead of the 2027 election campaign.

Kebbi APC Chieftain Withdraws Support for Tinubu Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, Adamu Yahaya, popularly known as Adam Fakai, has withdrawn his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as a lack of recognition from party leaders.

Fakai announced his decision in a statement, saying he would no longer promote the activities and programmes of the Tinubu administration after spending more than two years showcasing government projects and policies across the country.

According to him, he devoted his personal resources, time and energy to publicising the administration’s achievements because he believed in President Tinubu’s leadership and development agenda.

However, he said his efforts were neither acknowledged nor appreciated by APC leaders at the state and federal levels.

Fakai also alleged that some prominent political figures used photographs and videos of Federal Government projects he documented without giving him credit or reaching out to him.

He explained that the perceived lack of appreciation influenced his decision to discontinue promoting the administration, adding that he believes he might have received greater recognition if he were from another state.

Despite withdrawing his support, Fakai expressed gratitude to individuals who encouraged and supported him throughout the period.

The APC chieftain gained prominence on social media for travelling across Nigeria to document and publish photographs, videos and reports highlighting infrastructure projects and other development initiatives of the Tinubu administration.

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Bashir Ahmad appear set for a fresh political showdown in Osun State as campaigns intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The latest development follows a heated exchange between the duo on X after President Bola Tinubu held a telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle.

Celebrating the call, Davido posted that he “was there live” and had “witnessed history,” a remark that drew a response from Bashir Ahmad.

The former presidential media aide said he had bookmarked the singer’s post, suggesting that Davido would return to the platform to express disappointment after the governorship election.

Davido responded by mocking Ahmad over his reported performance in the APC primary election, where he allegedly polled 16 votes. He also accused the APC chieftain of failing to make a meaningful impact in his community despite serving in government for eight years.

In a follow-up post, Ahmad announced that he would be in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, from August 11 to participate in the APC’s campaign activities.

“I will be in Osogbo from 11th, David,” Ahmad wrote.

Meanwhile, political activities have intensified across Osun State as parties step up campaigns ahead of the governorship poll. The APC is campaigning for its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party.
