The Nile University of Nigeria, located in Abuja, is set to hold its 11th convocation, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo, has announced that 84 out of the 1,251 graduating students will be awarded first-class degrees. The university has a diverse group of graduates, including 632 postgraduate students, with 45 set to receive Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
Prof. Dogo provided further statistics, indicating that 203 students would receive second-class (honours) upper division degrees, 229 with second-class (honours) lower division, and only 10 with third-class (honours) degrees. Additionally, there will be 43 medical graduates as part of the convocation.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the institution’s commitment to employability skills, with the graduates achieving a 60% global employability rate. He also mentioned the expansion of enrolment quotas, stating that the university would admit 195 medical students in the coming session. The construction of three large academic complexes, including the only STEM state-of-the-art building in Nigeria, reflects the university’s commitment to providing quality education.
As part of the convocation ceremony, two prominent Nigerians, Dr. Mohammed Indimi and Prof. Isaac Adewole, will receive honorary degrees in oil and petroleum engineering and medical sciences, respectively. The convocation lecture will be delivered by Prof. Sulaiman Bogoro, an educationist and former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
