The Presidency has countered recent criticisms from Salihu Lukman, former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Northwest, who condemned the perceived decline in governance under President Bola Tinubu. Lukman had argued that each administration in Nigeria has worsened over time, claiming that Tinubu’s leadership is set to be the worst yet.
Lukman expressed dismay that while the previous administration under President Muhammadu Buhari fell short compared to that of Goodluck Jonathan, Tinubu’s government appears to be on a similar downward trajectory. He criticized opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, for not engaging in structured plans for the 2027 elections.
Lukman argued that the lack of organized opposition could lead to a continuation of APC rule, with no guarantee that a post-Tinubu government would be an improvement. He highlighted internal crises within opposition parties and criticized them for failing to unite and address the country’s worsening conditions.
In response, the Presidency, through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Lukman’s comments. Onanuga emphasized that the administration remains focused on governance and its reform efforts, stating, “We have no time for people whose pastime is denigrating the administration.” The Presidency asserts that the results of their reforms will demonstrate their effectiveness.
