“Rivers APC Calls for Governor Fubara’s Impeachment”

By Milcah Tanimu

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded that the Rivers State House of Assembly initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The directive was issued by Tony Okocha, the chairman of the Rivers APC caretaker committee, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Okocha accused Governor Fubara of violating the terms of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis in the state. The crisis has pitted the incumbent governor against his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The call for impeachment comes in response to Governor Fubara’s recent statement discrediting lawmakers loyal to Wike. Fubara declared that these lawmakers do not exist, contradicting the terms of the peace accord reached with Tinubu.

In a meeting with a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State seeking to address the political crisis and improve relations between both states, Governor Fubara emphasized his commitment to the peace accord. However, he indicated that the agreement could jeopardize the recognition of his loyalists as lawmakers.

Governor Fubara underscored his efforts to maintain peace in the state, stating that he had made significant sacrifices in this regard.

Further details on the situation are expected to emerge later.
