Tems to Take Center Stage at 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards

Excitement is brewing as Tems gears up to captivate audiences at the prestigious 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards. In a recent announcement by Billboard via X, it was revealed that Tems is slated to perform at the event, set to take place on March 6 at the YouTube Theater in California, USA.

Billboard shared the news, stating, “BREAKTHROUGH honoree @temsbaby will take the stage at the show for a performance on March 6 in Los Angeles.” Additionally, Tems will be honored with a coveted ‘Breakthrough Award’ during the ceremony.

Among the distinguished recipients of awards are Victoria Monét, Ice Spice, NewJeans, Maren Morris, Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX, Luísa Sonza, and Young Miko. The diversity of awardees underscores the global impact of music as an industry.

Tems stands out as the lone Nigerian artist to be recognized at this illustrious event. Known originally as Temilade Openiyi, she gained international acclaim in 2020 through her collaboration with Wizkid on the hit song ‘Essence’. Since then, she has solidified her position in the Nigerian music scene, earning numerous awards and accolades.

In a significant milestone, Tems clinched her first Grammy award in February 2023. She secured the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ award for her contribution to ‘Wait for U’, a 2022 hit track by Future featuring Drake.

Tems has previously shared that music became her solace when she felt disconnected, stating, “I did not have friends.” For her, music serves as a medium to express herself authentically and forge connections with people—a sentiment that resonates deeply with her fans worldwide.
