Residents of Magboro in Ogun State were devastated on Saturday when a truck, which suffered brake failure, veered into Magboro market. The tragic accident resulted in the death of a pregnant woman and injured her toddler.
The truck, bearing the license plate TTD-643ZY, lost control and swerved into the market, damaging both a car and a motorcycle in its path.
Eyewitnesses reported that the deceased woman was at the market to purchase foodstuffs when the calamity struck. A bystander, choosing to remain unnamed, described how the woman, seeing the oncoming truck, tried to flee with her young child. However, her attire impeded her movement, causing her to fall before the truck hit her.
Another witness shared how a motorcyclist narrowly avoided the same fate, having the presence of mind to abandon his motorcycle just in time.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ spokesperson, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident. Efforts to obtain further details were hampered as our correspondent could not be reached for additional information.
