The Ayanshina family is grieving after their family-owned building in Ojodu Abiodun, Ogun State, collapsed on Saturday, taking the lives of their two daughters, Suliyat, 16, and her elder sister, Nofisat, 25. The tragedy unfolded following a mudslide triggered by a downpour.

The sisters were inside the structure when the rain began, which eventually led to the building’s collapse. Rescue efforts by neighbors were prompt, but it took time to extricate the injured siblings from the debris. Both were rushed to the nearby Tomade Hospital, Ojodu Abiodun, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

A local resident, who wished to remain unnamed, shared the community’s shock and their concerted efforts to rescue the sisters. He said, “We all worked together to get them out from under the debris and hurriedly took them to the hospital. It’s heartbreaking that we couldn’t save them.”

Following the incident’s reporting to the police, the family requested that the sisters be buried in accordance with Islamic customs. Odutola Omolola, the state’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and the family’s wish for an immediate burial.
